County Cyclo-Cross 2004

The Cyclo-Cross, an annual competition held at Frylands Wood Scout Campsite, took place on Sunday 3rd October. The rain held off for most of the competition and, unusually for Frylands, the 1½-mile course started fairly dry. Fifty-three cyclists took part, representing sixteen Troops from all over Greater London South West.
The Cyclo-Cross is a team event for teams of three or more cyclists in each age category. The score for each team is the arithmetic sum of the highest three places achieved by that team (for example, 4th, 6th and 11th places would give a team score of 21). Where there are fewer than three cyclists in a team, the third place or second and third places are given a position following the last place in the race.
Two of the first three riders home in the under-12 race were from Wallington, Carshalton & District: Alex N finished first and Karl S finished third. Three of the top four under-12 teams were from Wallington, Carshalton & District Troops: 14th Wallington gained first place, 3rd Carshalton gained second place and 1st Wallington gained fourth place.
Wallington, Carshalton & District and Sutton & Cheam District teams also did well in the under-14 race with 1st North Sutton gaining second place, 3rd Carshalton gaining third place and 14th Wallington gaining fifth place.
Finally, Wallington, Carshalton & District riders led the under-16 and leader races: Matthew Z won the under-16 race while Ben M won the leader race. 14th Wallington shared first team place with 1st Hook in the under-16 category and Matthew Z won the overall under-16/leader trophy.
