Badge Requirements
The following Portable Document Format (PDF) files show the challenge and activity badge requirements for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers/Network. These files have been created from the information available on ScoutBaseUK as at 14th February 2008.
The badge requirements are presented in a choice of formats:
- A4 pages (includes bookmarks and hyperlinks)
- A5 pages with each badge starting a new page – good for browsing in a small window (includes bookmarks and hyperlinks)
- A6 booklet (Beavers, Cubs and Explorers) – four A6 pages per A4 sheet, intended to be printed double-sided, cut in half and then folded and stapled to form an A6 booklet
- A5 booklet (Scouts) – two A5 pages per A4 sheet, intended to be printed double-sided and then folded and stapled to form an A5 booklet
- A4 compact (Scouts) – useful for printers that support A5 booklet printing and saddle stitching
Covers for the A6 booklets are provided in separate files (two to a page) to allow for printing on to card. The Scout badge requirements are in a different format as there are too many pages for an A6 booklet.
Note: to print booklets at the correct size, please ensure that page scaling is set to ‘off’, ‘none’ or 100% in your PDF application.

Printing Double-sided
It is normally possible to print double-sided on a single-sided printer but the exact method depends on the printer. The following instructions may be useful although the wording of the options may vary from computer to computer. It may be wise to experiment first by choosing a Print Range of, say, ‘Pages from 1 to 4’ rather than ‘All’ to establish how the printer works.
-
Select ‘File->Print’ from the menu, choose ‘All’ as the Print Range and choose ‘Odd Pages Only’ from the Print box. Ensure ‘Scaling’ is set to none and ‘Fit to page’ is not selected. Click ‘OK’.
-
Once the ‘odd’ pages have printed, move the stack of printed pages back to the paper feed tray so that the next page will be printed on the back of an already printed page. This may either be the back of the first ‘odd’ page or the back of the last ‘odd’ page depending on the printer. It may be necessary to turn the stack of pages over.
-
Select ‘File->Print’ again, choose ‘All’ as the Print Range and choose ‘Even Pages Only’ from the Print box. If the next page will be printed on the back of the last ‘odd’ page then select ‘Reverse pages’, otherwise leave ‘Reverse pages’ not selected. Click ‘OK’.
