County Night Hike 2004

The first GLSW County Explorer Night Hike took place on Saturday 6th November 2004. Seventeen teams gathered in the village hall at Horsley in Surrey for a 13½-mile hike in the surrounding countryside.

In all, nine teams completed the full 13½-mile Gold route, seven teams completed the 10½-mile Silver route and one team completed the 8½-mile Bronze route.

Two teams from Wallington, Carshalton & District and Sutton & Cheam Districts took part – the Double Dragon ESU team and the Belmont ESU team. Both teams completed the Gold route. After building up a large lead, a route-finding problem on the last leg left the Double Dragon team 11 minutes behind the eventual winners and in second place.
