Operation Red Flare, a 12-mile night hike with 13 checkpoints, 8 incidents, 4 bonus questions and a challenge, took place in the area around Bentley Copse campsite on the night of Saturday 22nd February 2004. Altogether 17 teams – Explorers, Network and Rangers – took part and approximately 50 adults were involved in the running of the event.

Two teams from Wallington, Carshalton & District and Sutton & Cheam Districts took part – teams from Double Dragon ESU and Cheam Village ESU. The under-18 and overall winners were the Double Dragon team with 417 points while the Cheam Village team finished 12th with 272 points. The full results are on the GLSW web site but a table including the top three places is shown below.
