County Cub Swimming Gala 2005

The Greater London South West County Cub Swimming Gala took place on Saturday 26th November at the Trinity School Pool in Croydon. There are five Districts in Greater London South West and each District was invited to enter two teams. However, only six teams took part in the gala: two teams each from Croydon District and Sutton District, one team each from Richmond upon Thames District and Royal Kingston District but no teams from Wimbledon & Wandle District.

There were six events: front crawl, breast stroke, back stroke, a three-length breast stroke/back stroke/front crawl relay, a four-length freestyle relay and a fun race that involved a float supporting a bowl containing a ping-pong ball. Each Cub was allowed to take part in one relay leg and one other event only (so at least seven Cubs were required for each team). With only six teams taking part, all the races were finals. Six points were awarded for first place down to one point for sixth place in each race.

The Sutton District teams consisted of Cubs from 2nd Carshalton, 5th Carshalton, 1st North Sutton, 1st Wallington and 14th Wallington Cub Packs. Sutton’s two teams, named “Port” and “Starboard”, finished in joint second place and sixth place.
