Centenary District Camp 2007
Newsletter No. 5
Hello and welcome to the fifth and final newsletter for this event. As I sit down to write this (05/05/2007), we are just 21 days away from what I am sure will be a day that will go down in Scouting history.
Numbers and Payments
Finally we have got all the numbers in and I can tell you that when we sit down / stand up / sit down to camp fire there will be over 1,200 people present. This will include over 800 campers and over 400 day visitors and V.I.P. guests, so this should be something to remember. We have now closed the door and we will not be adding any more campers or day visitors. We will accept your V.I.P. guests as these were late being invited. Payments—we asked for your payments by the 1st May and most of you were fantastic and have got the money to us on or very close to that date, but there are a few of you that have still to pay. Come on please don’t make me have to phone and chase you for the money. Send it in now or if there is a delay give me a call. All cheques should be made payable to Sutton Scout District and sent to me.
Security
We asked that you sent us a picture of all the adults attending this event (with the exception of the V.I.P. evening visitors). Well for those of you that have done this thank you very much it is appreciated. If you haven’t done this yet why not, you need to pull your fingers out and send these photos to Pauline Pattison. These should be with Pauline no later than Saturday 12th May. Any photos that arrive after that we will be asking for a £1 donation per photo, this will be added to the Walton Firs appeal.
These passes need to be worn at all times on camp, if you are not wearing your pass then you may well be stopped and asked to return to your tent to collect it, we need to ensure the safety of our young people at all times.
Each person on camp will be issued with a wrist band, for adults this is worn in addition to the security pass, for our youth members this will be all that is required. There will be spare wrist bands available at a cost of £1 each, so if they lose them they will need to buy a new one from the District team.
Making Our Mark
This appears to have gone very well, I don’t yet know how much we have raised as I am still waiting to get the moneys in, so if you’ve been collecting please may I have your moneys by Saturday 12th May, cheques payable to Sutton Scout District, send to Ray Shaw, along with the names of what people collected please. We will reveal the grand total of this at District camp. The other part of Making Our Mark was to Plant a tree, I have spoken to the site and they have requested a Hornbeam Tree, I am told that they used to make Wood Badge beads out of this wood. I have managed to source a tree as to their request and we will be planting this during our time there.
Open Evening
We will be holding an open evening on Tuesday 15th May at the District H.Q., this is your chance to come and ask us any last minute questions, have a look at where we have placed you on site, I think most of you asked to be close to the toilets!, and to collect your box of goodies, this will include your ID tags, wrist bands, camp books and anything else we have for you so please make sure your Group is represented.
Home Contacts
Don’t forget that we will require a copy of your home contact summary sheet upon arrival at camp.
And Finally
Well we think we have thought of everything but I’m sure that there will be something else, so please forgive us. All that is left is to say that we will look forward to seeing you all there and don’t forget to request fine weather,
