Centenary District Camp 2007
Making our Mark

As this event will be part of some thing so special we (the Committee), felt that it would be nice if we could leave behind a lasting memory of our participation in this National event. We propose to do this in two ways.

Firstly we want to plant a tree, quite simple and straight forward with a plaque to recall the occasion for future generations.

The second part is a little more complex. As we are all aware Walton Firs is under threat of closure and the site along with Surrey Scout Council are hoping to buy the freehold of the site , they have negotiated a two year lease in which time they need to raise £800,000 to buy the freehold.

They are making inroads into this and believe that by the end of the first year they would have raised around 50% of the target.

We would on this great occasion like to make a donation to this appeal, but to do this we need your help.

The Target

To achieve anything you need a target, and we have set our target at £20,000, this may at first seem a huge mountain to climb , but really its only a small hill if we all pull together, also if we reach this figure it means that every one from Sutton would in future be entitled to a 10% discount on camp fees.

The How

Beavers

Each Beaver would be given two tubes of Smarties and asked to collect 20p pieces in one and pennies in the other, this represents 21 years of Beaver Scouting.

Cubs

I’m sure many of you will remember the cry “Bob a Job”, well we want to bring this up to date,, doing jobs for their families, nans, grandads, aunties etc., but instead of a Bob (5p) we will ask people to give in units of 100p.

Scouts/Explorers

With the two older sections we want them to just “Scout”, but with sponsorship,, maybe a Troop could hike a 100km between them, or do 100 abseils, tie 100 knots, the choice will be theirs, but it should link to 100, and people should be asked to sponsor in units of 100 pence.

The period of this event would run from Monday 15th January 2007 to Tuesday 24th April 2007, (100 days), just after you return from the Easter break.

There will be some prizes for the various sections that raise the greatest amounts, pro-rata, based on the 2007 census.

If Walton Firs closes this will mean another of our local camp sites lost for ever.
