New Year’s Day Parade 2005

1st Wallington Scout Band took part in the 2005 New Year’s Day Parade in London, representing one of the many aspects of Sutton’s community. Organisers estimated that half a million Londoners and visitors watched the parade along the length of its route from Parliament Square to Green Park, via Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly.

Spectators were asked to text their choice of favourite entry to the organisers. Sutton gained second place out of 17 entries in the people’s choice section, winning £2,000 for the Mayor’s nominated charity.
